For example, suppose you wear a 50 coat, but your
waist size is a 48. With a 50 coat, you would think
that an X-Large (48 - 50) vest would be fine, but
since your waist is 48 ... you would actually do
better going with a 2X-Large (52 - 54) vest to
accommodate your waist. Even though the vest will be
large in your chest area, you can then have your
tailor "taper" the vest in the chest area. Here's
another example: Suppose you wear a 44R coat but
only have a 34 inch waist. In this case, you would
go with the Large (43 - 46) vest even though your
waist range calls for a Medium. You would then take
your vest to a tailor and have them "taper" the vest
in the waist area. Remember: it's your tailor who
can create perfection.
